Why you should not focus on yourself.

Recently it dawned on me that the start of sin, wickedness and general wrongdoing according to the Bible’s standard  is “belly button gazing” or self centeredness.

“And those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God”- Romans 8:8 (Amp)

So what does living in the flesh mean?

When all you do is to make sure you are comfortable even if it stands against God’s word, you are letting your flesh control you. This is otherwise known as living in your flesh.

Think about this, a person would lie to get  him/herself out of trouble.  People fornicate or commit adultery because their bodies tell them to . A person believes there is no God because it is “easy” to wrap the  brain around.

See, if you are a child of God, it is supposed to be different for you.

God has called us to live for Him and to show Him to people around us.

And Jesus replied to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others]- Matthew 22:38-39(AMP)

If little time is spent focusing on all that will be good for you on this earth, then you’d have a better chance of living above sin as the Lord requires and helps.

Because it is written, “You shall be holy (set apart), for I am holy.” -1 Peter 1:16 (AMP)

As a followers of Jesus (A.K.A  christian), we have been called to lose our lives for Him.

Whoever finds his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], and whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake will find it [that is, life with Me for all eternity]- Jesus Matthew 10:39 (AMP)

Recklessly abandon yourself to Him, entrust yourself to Him, focus on Him , walk with Him,work for Him and see Him work through you.

Because He is God, He created you and He knows what is best for you just like a manufacturer knows the machine he/she created.

If you don’t know Jesus , you need to know Him. Obviously, you will not live on this planet forever.

“To focus on how I’m doing more than what Christ has done is Christian narcissism”
