Bless Jehova (I)

  1. ”Bless Jehovah, O my soul;and all that is within me,bless his holy name”.
  2. “Bless Jehovah ,O my soul, and forget not all his benefits”. (ASV) Psalm 103: 1 and 2

The above scripture intrigues me because so many times we fail to thank God for the ‘small’ things that he does and keeps doing for us. we forget all he has done and the things he is doing and focus on the things he hasn’t done.

As we know, Bless is a synonym for thanks and praise.

Verse one says

Give praise to the lord, O my soul; let everything in me give praise to his holy name”(BBE)

Some of you may be thinking, “Things are not going my way, why am I thanking God”?

For one there is the occasional feel of the sun and wind on your face. Moreover, you can breathe oxygen free of charge.

Now do you know that in the University of Abuja (Nigeria) teaching hospital, a tank of medical oxygen per hour costs 1000 Nigerian Naira (6.1USD) ,just imagine if you have to live on that for 365 days, that would basically cost 8.7million Naira (53000USD) and God gives it to you for free.

You still think he hasn’t done enough?Go to the hospitals and see how much pain people are in. I am almost certain that if you are able to read this post then it’s not that bad.

See I understand that sometimes things do not necessarily go our way but I assure you that God is good and he expects you to praise him whether you feel like it or not.

Verse two says

“Give Praise to the lord, O my soul;let not all his blessings go from your memory”( BBE)

When you do not remember the “small” things he does daily, like waking you up from sleep in the morning and shielding you from domestic accidents as you go about your daily activities, how do you remember to thank him for the “big” things?.

Psalm 136 verse one says

“O give thanks to the lord, For he is good: and his mercy endureth forever”( KJV)

Personally, I did not fully understand how good or how Kind Jehovah is until I understood that there is a God who suffered on a cross for me about 2000 years ago just so that I would be privileged to enjoy eternal life.

Yeah, imagine the irony (God and Suffering), just for me and you. He definitely deserves to be praised.

Jesus-On-the-Cross-Background

See, Jehovah is GOOD, his mercies do not end. He loves you so much that he sent Jesus, his beloved son to die for you and I don’t think that you should forget God and take him for granted because things are not going your way.

In the words of Claus Westermann

¬† “The coordination of ‘Bless’ and ‘Don’t forget’ expresses a profound truth.Only those who praise do not forget.Forgetting God and turning away from God begins when praise has been silenced’

Jesus loves us so much and he wants us to live for him by his grace.

Let us keep praising him as we live for him.

Let it shine!

Apparently, some ladies are calling themselves ‘BITCHES’ these days. I recently had a conversation with a colleague and she was like ‘¬† oh yeah, I am a bitch’¬† and BITCH according to her means, ‘Babes in total control here’. where?, don’t ask me.

Although I cannot remember the conversation leading to that, it just struck me that a lady who professes to be a christian called her self a ‘Bitch’. Like seriously?

See,the dictionary meanings of a bitch include:

1. A female canine animal especially a dog.

2.A woman considered to be mean, overbearing or contemptible.

3. A prostitute in relation to a pimp.

Now, looking at the above definitions of the word ‘BITCH’, it is safe to say that the word is derogatory and condescending in every way.

What the heck happened to self respect? The elders say you carry yourself the way you want to be carried.¬† Now I am not saying I am perfect or the epitome of self respect but then, God’s grace is sufficient¬† and available for me and you, all you need to do is to tap into that grace by filling your heart with the word.

The bible says in Psalm 119 verse 11 says ” I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you”

Fill your heart with God’s word and see yourself grow.

In addition,

Proverbs 31:30 tells us that

“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the lord is to be praised”.(NIV)

According to the above scripture, we should basically fear God and because we fear God, he will help us understand that we are precious to him and with the Holy spirit leading us, we would respect ourselves and carry ourselves with dignity. Proverbs 9:10 ” The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy one is understanding” (NIV)

Remember you are Peculiar and you cannot afford to think and behave like everybody else.

Jesus also reminds us in Matthew 5:16

”Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven”.(KJV)

You are a woman of God,the light and salt of the earth, your light needs to start shining .

Let it shine!

Let’s live for Jesus.

You are Beautiful

I did the big chop in Nairobi in year 2012,after I had been influenced greatly by my African American Roommate¬† in the US to embrace my ‘being African’.

Fast forward to 2013,coming back to home to Minna in Northern Nigerian with my Afro and I am getting all these stares and comments from my friends and relatives. Comments¬† like ‘when are you going to relax your hair’? or ‘ you look like a boy’.

If I must confess, that did a number on my self esteem as I began to look for ways to cover my hair by putting weaves and braids on just so that I would look beautiful and more like a  woman.

SAM_1252
Just before I got back to Nigeria

Now, recently I have just being reminded that I have been created and designed by the most talented designer in the whole universe,JEHOVA.

The bible in Psalm 139:13  says

‘ For you formed my inward part; you knitted me in my mother’s womb, I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”

See, I have also just been reminded that praising God is all I should be doing because being beautiful isn’t dependent on my hair more than it is dependent on the being living in me; the HOLY SPIRIT. Now, this being makes me beautiful everyday by renewing his fruits in me and just like me, you are beautiful. You don’t believe me?

Galatians 5:22 and 23 says,

‘But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness , faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law” (NIV)

Let me tell you, don’t let that self esteem reduce because you feel like you are shapeless or fat or not beautiful enough. The bible tells us we have been wonderfully and fearfully made, still not convinced?

Genesis 1:27 says

”So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;male and female he created them”.

Seriously, you are beautiful and God loves you .¬† Just stand in front of the mirror and see¬† yourself the way he sees you. As a matter of fact God can be seen as soon as you are sighted because you have been created in his image, and if the ‘worry’ is a life partner ,since the assumption is that the container is seen before the content, you will be perfect for the heart that is meant to love you.

So today , take a chill pill ,lift your shoulders and raise your head high because,YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!

Jesus loves you

So you are a Freak?

So I am having a chat with a colleague and he’s like¬† ‘Favour, you are abnormal’ and I am like say what?

However, looking back, he might have been right I am indeed abnormal and so is everybody with the Holy spirit living in them. You are special, you are not like everybody else.

You’ve got the almighty as your father who has given you the mandate to be the salt and light of the world. it’s okay to be a freak, it’s okay not be like everybody else. It’s okay to think, talk and sound almost like Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

1 peter 2:9 says

”But you are a chosen generation a royal priest hood, a holy nation,a peculiar ,that you may declare the praises of him who has called into his marvelous light”.

Note the word ‘Peculiar’¬† is a synonym for abnormal.

Jesus tells us in  Mark 8: 38 that

”If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in the adulterous and sinful generation, the son of man would be ashamed of them when he comes in his father’s glory with his holy angels”

As a matter of fact, Matthew 10:33 emphasizes the same

”If anyone denies me before men, I will deny before my father who is in heaven”

Therefore, let’s be proud followers of Jesus both in our thoughts, words and deeds.

Let’s GO AND BE ABNORMAL!
